Grevillea 2024 Recital Series - Programme 3

For the third and final concert in this year’s recital series, we a delighted to be working with Richard Charlton, who is widely recognised as one of Australia’s leading guitarist/composers.

Concerning his guitar solo The Black Cockatoo (flying alone), Richard writes “one day I saw a solitary one, and as many of these species mate for life, I was given to wondering if there was perhaps some sad tale behind this lone flyer?”

Wendy will join Richard in another of his compositions, Dust on a Butterfly’s Wing, with texts by the Australian poet Minnie Agnes Filson (aka “Rickety Kate”)

Our exploration of repertoire for the three of us, unearthed songs by the nineteenth century German composer, Carl Loewe, a contemporary of Franz Schubert and the Four Tonadillas by the Spanish composer Enrique Granados.

Other discoveries were the charming Sonata for Piano and Guitar by the Austrian composer Anton Diabelli, and four beautiful English art songs by Frank Bridge, with texts based on translations of the lyric poetry of the German poet Heinrich Heine.

Refreshments will be served at the conclusion of the recital, and proceeds will be donated to the Richard Gill Primary School in Muswellbrook (a comprehensive, secular, independent primary school, with a music focus).
