For our first concerts in our 2024 Recital Series our esteemed guest artist was the renowned flautist, James Kortum.

The program commenced with two beautiful arias by Bach for soprano with flute obbligato - one from the Peasant Cantata and the other from the Easter Oratorio. It ended with the obligatory duet for soprano and flute, Lo! here the Gentle Lark, by Henry Bishop.

An exciting new discovery was a short three-song cycle by the young English composer, Joanathan Slade. His music responds with great sensitivity to texts from French, Italian and German poets. The program also contained music by Arnold Cooke, Jean-Philippe Rameau and the veteran Australian composer, May Howlett.
