Wendy Dixon is well known throughout New Zealand and Australia in opera, concert and recital. She has sung as a guest artist soprano soloist with Opera Australia, Victoria State Opera, Opera Queensland, State Opera of South Australia, New Zealand International Festival of the Arts, opera companies in New Zealand, and the major orchestras in Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and Mexico. Performances of note include Strauss 'Four Last Songs', the Verdi Requiem, Schönberg's Gurrelieder for The New Zealand International Festival of the Arts, Leonora in 'Fidelio' (Beethoven), Musetta (La Boheme), Tosca, Aida, Violetta in 'La Traviata', Rosalinde in 'Die Fledermaus' and Donna Elvira in 'Don Giovanni'.

 

Wendy Dixon records for NZBC, ABC-FM and 2MBS-FM. She has toured with Musica Viva and for the Chamber Music Federation of New Zealand. She has recorded excerpts from 'The Magic Flute' on an Opera Australia CD and is on an Opera Australia video performing Miss Jessel in 'The Turn of the Screw', an opera by Benjamin Britten.  She has edited the songs of the Australian composer Horace Keats in collaboration with pianist David Miller and has recorded 8 CDs of Australian songs with David Miller. These include "Echo" (songs by Horace Keats) for ABC Classics and "A Little Lovely Dream" (songs by Hugh Dixon) for Wirripang. She has co-written three books on Australian vocal repertoire with accompanying vocal CDs (published by Wirripang).

Wendy Dixon is also an established singing teacher, currently tutoring at CHIME and at Australian Institute of Music as Vocal and Language for Singers tutor while running her own private studio.

 

She has created her Voice Trek series (group classes for adult beginners) and for several years at Christmas wrote and ran 'Lets Make an Opera' for Ku-ring-gai Council, a week-long course for children that incorporated acting, singing and costume-making with a performance at the completion. Wendy is producer and artistic director of ‘Opera BootCamp Australia’, a programme for 15-25 year old potential opera singers that is run for 8 days. Past years include Opera Gore, Opera Lunacy, Opera OverBoard, Over HeatWave and Opera Winter. Wendy has been involved as arranger and vocal coach in OperaLab at the Open Academy, Sydney Conservatorium of Music, in both 2018 and 2019.

 

She is also founder of Sydney Art Song Society Inc (SASS), a group for mature age amateur singers giving performance opportunities within a supportive and educational atmosphere.

 

Wendy is Musical Director of ArrowOpera (aka ‘Divas on Demand’), a group of singers currently making their mark in Sydney. IN partnership with Nathan Gilkes she created the innovative 'Boheme a piacere' an hour long

 

Additionally, she is also a member of the Artists’ Advisory Panel for Wirripang - Publishers of fine Australian Music.

 

Wendy has completed a Masters in Music, Music Education at Conservatorium of Music, University of Sydney on "Selection procedures relating to Australian vocal repertoire for mid-adolescent HSC performers" and has presented three papers on this topic at ASME conferences in Melbourne and Perth.

Wendy is currently enrolled as a doctoral candidate at the University of Sydney.
